2007
A
great big thank you to everyone who came to visit us at the Braehead
Wedding Exhibition over the weekend, the response was fantastic
again and we look forward to hearing from you all in the next
few months to discuss your wedding cakes.
As
always we made some new friends and met some new vendors and we
look forward to seeing them all again at the next exhibition in
February.
A
special thanks to the very friendly staff at John McKay jewelers
from Paisley who helped Ann choose a ring as a birthday present
from yours truly, she is absolutely delighted with it.
We
have been so busy over the past year that we have not had much time
to devote to new designs but we will have at least a dozen new wedding
cake designs for the next show, I promise.
The
new designs will not be added to the website until they have been
shown at the wedding show, if you can't make the show why not sign
up for our Newsletter
and we will keep you informed of new designs, events and special
offers, discounts and competitions.

Wedding
cakes - New year - New ideas
Happy
New Year, welcome back to our wedding cakes blog, I hope I can offer
some help and new ideas for your ideal wedding cake.
With
Christmas and New Year just a fading memory, It's time to start
thinking about the year ahead, new wedding cake designs, new ideas,
new accessories but don't worry we will still have all the favorite
wedding cake designs available, we will just add new one as they
are created.
The
next wedding show we have planned is on the 3rd & 4th February
this year at Braehead, Glasgow and I'm sure it's going to be fantastic.
We
have managed to secure some new suppliers for certain accessories
such as boxes for our individual wedding cakes and now have a beautiful
range is different colours which can be complimented with any colour
of ribbon to suit your wedding colours.
It's
a excellent way to make your wedding day a little more personal,
no mess cutting a wedding cake and everyone can take an individual
wedding cake home as a reminder of your special day.
Another
advantage of individual wedding cakes would be the delivery, most
wedding cakes are delivered personally, well would you trust a courier
company with such a special cake?
Our
Individual
Wedding Cakes can be sent by courier
because they are packed to travel, straight to your venue, no need
to arrange for collection, no need to pay for your wedding cake
maker to deliver it, no need to arrange or hire a cake stand or
base.
Your
individually boxed wedding cakes can be stacked to display them
and then handed to guests to take home, who needs a piece of wedding
cake when they have just eaten a meal anyway, most would prefer
to take an individual wedding cake home.
The
old tradition was to place the wedding cake slice under your pillow
and you would dream of the person you were going to marry, I'm all
for tradition but are you really going to eat that wedding cake
slice after sleeping on it all night, I don't think so!
The
beauty of our Individual wedding cakes is that you can take them
home to eat when you want, still cut a slice for under your pillow
and still have enough to taste our rich fruit individual wedding
cake, what more could you ask for!

Add
colour without adding it to the wedding cake
I know it sounds strange at first but it was a request asked of
us by a previous client.
Our
challenge was to incorporate colour somewhere, our client wanted
a white wedding cake just the way we had it on our web site but
also wished to have the purple colour of her bridesmaids dresses
complimented.
We
thought about adding the colour to the top piece, to just the decoration
or maybe as a highlight colour but these were ideas everyone else
had thought of, our clients us wanted something different.
It
was then that the discussion about the cake base came into the conversation
and it was suggested we make the base the purple colour our client
wanted.
It
became apparent that we had used the typical silver and gold, round
and square plastic bases that others use for far too long, It was
always a pet hate that a heart shaped wedding cake on a square or
round cake base just didn't do it for me, also that larger four
or five tier wedding cakes were a little too big for the standard
base.
Now
we had a solution, create our own bases, create them in any shape,
size or colour our clients require for their wedding cakes,
colour
coordinated bases.
The
bases are built to fit the size of wedding cake, enhancing the appearance
of the wedding cake and displaying it to it's full potential, the
other plus is that we do not have to purchase bases from anyone
else.
Some
of our coloured bases can be viewed on our web site and you can
see how different they look to the boring old standard plastic bases
everyone else has.

Our
Special Days - Free wedding web page with every wedding cake
Our
new wedding web site is nearly complete, we initially had another
web site where we could add photo's of our couples who we created
wedding cakes for.
They could add a picture of both of them with their wedding cake
and information about their special day.
We
felt this was not doing justice to our couples or our wedding cakes,
so we decided to redesign and have a more professional looking web
site for our couples to add to and it's
FREE when
they purchase a wedding cake from us, all they need to do is send
us a photo of themselves with their wedding cake.
The
new web site will be available from 25st November 2006, If you are
a previous client and want to add your photo just email us and we
will add you as soon as possible.
The
web site address will be available when the site is uploaded, so
call back.

Cakes
By Ann video on YouTube
Peter
has just found out how to create a video of some of our wedding
cakes for anyone to watch.
It
shows some of our traditional, modern, novelty and chocolate wedding
cakes and a small selection of our personalized wedding figures.
Peter explained how sometimes when he browses the internet he gets
a bit fed up clicking on different pages all the time trying to
find what he wants and that it was much better to sit back and see
a selection and then decide whether to visit the web site.
Asking
him if the video would be available from this web site he explained
that it's much easier to host it on another site like
YouTube
or Flurl.
Personally
I don't think he knew how to add it to our web site but let him
have his little moment.
If
you want to have a look just click one of the links above, you can
see the video and even leave us some comments if you wish.

Cakes
By Ann at The Best Scottish Wedding Show
Wow,
what a weekend at "The Best Scottish Wedding Show", really
hectic but enjoyable.
This
is one of the best shows we have ever exhibited at and our many
thanks go to Dave and all his staff for all the help during the
weekend.
Our
thanks also to the large number of clients who ordered on the day,
we were taken a bit by surprise with the response to our wedding
cakes, seems there was a wide range of interest across all of our
wedding cakes and services.
It
was also nice to meet so many friendly wedding vendors, in particular
the staff at "The
Chocolate Fondue Fountain"
Fantastic chocolate fountains and I was extremely
impressed with the champagne fountain, the first in Scotland they
tell me.
We
were also impressed by
"Caesar's
Wedding Favours", Claire is
very friendly and will make your search for the perfect wedding
favours enjoyable.
I
would like to mention some others also, Claire - One Fine Day, Allan
P Fulton - Designer & Goldsmith, Maurice - By Storm an extremely
nice gentleman, If I've forgotten anyone I apologize, just come
over and have a chat at the next show.
If
you visit the next wedding show at Braehead please be sure to visit
these vendors, they will make your experience memorable, and don't
forget to visit Cakes By Ann also, we will be at Stand 63, don't
be afraid to ask us anything, we're there to help you and love having
a chat.
Please
remember this is only a small selection of our wedding cakes, we
would probably need a space the size of a supermarket to display
all the designs we have created past and present and we love creating
new designs, so if you don't see what you want just ask.

By Ann - Getting ready for a wedding show
We
thought things might have been slowing down a bit as it gets near
to the end of the wedding season, no at all.
With orders still coming in, orders still to fill and a wedding
show coming up at the end of September things are just as hectic
as they always are, maybe even more, but we wouldn't change a thing.
We're
looking forward to this wedding show, It's been an experience, designing
a display, choosing colours, designing a new brochure and creating
new wedding cake designs.
We
think the really exciting part will come when we see the reaction
to some of our new wedding cake designs, you never know until the
day if the designs are going to be a hit or a miss, you just have
to wait and see.
The
show is "The Best Scottish Wedding Show - Braehead", we
are there on the Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th September, everyone
is welcome to visit us and view some of our wedding cakes, I can
promise you that you will see something different.

Cakes
By Ann - Cake maker to the Stars
I
haven't had a lot of time to spare so could not add to this as often
as I would have liked.
Who
ever said this is a busy time of the year for wedding cakes should
know that all year round is a busy time of the year for creating
cakes, new designs for next year, wedding shows, along with all
the other hundreds of chores a woman has to do on a daily basis,
come on girls admit it we are superwomen.
Wouldn't
it be nice just to sit down some times with a large glass of your
favorite wine and relax.
Sorry
for wandering, back to this post.
In
May I had the pleasure to create and present a cake to a celebrity,
I was so excited.
The celebrity was none other than Roy "Chubby" Brown.
My husband and I went backstage and presented him with a square
cake with the Chubby cartoon character on it and the words of his
famous catchphrase.
Roy
was really nice and made us feel so welcome, as did all his staff
and I would like to say a big thank you to them for a great night.
Now
are there any River City fans out there, I'm more of a fanatic and
watch it religiously, no one can have a conversation with me when
it is on TV, even the phone knows better than to ring.
Well tonight I met Ryan Fletcher, Vader to all those who have not
had the pleasure to watch the greatest scottish soap ever.
I
got my photo taken with Ryan holding the cake we delivered for his
brother Scott's 18th birthday.
Happy Birthday Scott, if you see this post.
If
you would like to see both photo's I have placed them on my Cakes
By Ann web site on the page below.

Next
step - Individual wedding cakes
An
update to our wedding adventures.
Being
asked continually if we create cup cakes we have decided to go one
better and create "Individual wedding cakes" or "Mini
wedding cakes" .
We will if asked create fantastic cup cakes for your wedding day
but much prefer to create small individual wedding cakes.
It's
a great idea, instead of handing out slices of cake to your guests
would it not be better to present everyone with their own little
wedding cake.
No mess, no fuss, no waste.
Another
benefit is that you don't have to have the same design on every
cake.
Really any design can be added to enhance your wedding theme, compliment
your colour scheme or just show your personality.

Wedding
cakes, Are the trends changing
I
have noticed over a number of years that there is a shift towards
creating wedding cakes to the ideas and wishes of the clients, not
a new concept I hear you say.
No
more do most want to just pick a design and go with it, they have
expectations now of obtaining a wedding cake decorated exactly the
way they want it and why shouldn't they.
When
I was planning my wedding nearly twenty years ago we went to see
wedding cakes, they were all very pretty and nicely decorated.
There was a choice of twelve different designs, we were not asked
if we would like anything changed on the cake but when we asked
about flowers, decoration, colours etc, we were told this is the
way the cake is decorated, take it or leave it.
There
were no options to make it our wedding cake such as personalized
figures, the same flowers as my bouquet and the choice of colours
were Ivory or White.
It's
great to see and create wedding cakes that are tailored to our clients
needs, how boring it must have been all those years ago to create
the same wedding cake over and over again.
The
most challenging and rewarding are the ideas that are totally different
from anything else we have created before, I can tell you that some
clients even surprise us still with some of the requests we get.
Our
web site is aimed at the general public so we only show cakes that
any age could look at but I'm sure we could have another web site
with all the naughty, cakes with body parts, adult toys, adult subjects,
not just novelty cakes but wedding cakes incorporating these as
well.
We
welcome any idea, whether the client thinks it would be silly to
ask, we encourage them to give us their thoughts on what their ideal
wedding cake should look like and go all out to create that cake
for them, we enjoy the challenge and they should enjoy the cake.
We
do get our fair share of traditional wedding cake also, If they
require a traditional wedding cake then that is what they get.
The same attention to detail is paid to all our wedding cakes.
Sorry
slipped into advertising mode there, the reason for this post was
to ask if anyone else has had any unusual requests for cakes.
I
think one of the most unusual ones we have had was a client who
wanted to send us a mould of his private parts to be placed on a
cake to send to his girlfriend, what's yours?
This
is why I think trends are changing, years ago none of these things
would have been heard of.
Kind
regards
